SLOKVA, zavod za razvoj neizkoriščenih potencialov, so. p.

Zavod Slokva, so. p., is the first social enterprise in Carinthia. It was created as a response to ever-increasing unemployment and social exclusion, as well as awareness of the importance of sustainable development and a healthy lifestyle.

We perform activities in the public interest and strive to achieve socially beneficial goals in our operations. We regularly and happily participate in various events organized by the local community, NGOs, social enterprises, etc., because networking is essential in realizing our vision. We carry out various projects in which we include children, the elderly, representatives of the most vulnerable people on the labor market, projects for the development of agriculture and the countryside, cultural projects in the form of workshops for children, workshops as part of the project for revitalizing the city center, workshops for the elderly as part of programs for the elderly. Every year, we participate in events such as the Day for Changes, Lifelong Learning Weeks, the Learning Parade, the Peace Festival, the Festival of Differences, etc., where we present our company and activities, most of which we carry out for users free of charge.

We have been registered in the register of volunteer organizations since 2014, and we already have over 40 volunteers working with us. Since 2018, we have been implementing the active employement policies (AEP) Training Workshop measure, and after completing the training, we have so far employed 7 individuals at the SLOKVA Institute. We constantly try to include vulnerable groups of people who are socially excluded for various reasons in our programs.

Social entrepreneurship represents the answer to many challenges of the current society, which need to be overcome. One of the basic attitudes of a social enterprise is the strengthening of social solidarity and cohesion. At SLOKVA Institute, we really strive for the social inclusion of vulnerable groups of people. With this aim, we applied to the public tender of the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities. With a successful application, in the fall of 2019 we started to implement the Social Activation for Carinthia project, the purpose of which is to empower vulnerable people, acquire new and upgrade their existing competencies, and enable reintegration into society through various social activities – in the form of workshops and lectures, as well as practical training with external employers. We try to bring as many people as possible closer to the labor market and improve their employability and employment.

From experience, I can say that the implementation of a social activation program under the auspices of a social enterprise can be more fruitful due to the very approach of the social activation program, and at the same time, the environment itself allows the participants of the program to feel safe for their development potential. We also strive for continuous staff development, we deal with diverse professional content, as a result of which we are able to offer the participants of the social activation program support and guidance to improve their life situation.

We have many references in the field of rural development, and our beginnings were precisely in the field of agriculture – the sale of farm surpluses. By applying for various public tenders, we are trying to develop the countryside so that farming is not abandoned. In the past, we have developed the iFarmer information platform for farm owners, which is available to farm owners free of charge.

We implemented and successfully completed many projects in the field of smart agriculture, the aim of which was to inform the general public, but above all to involve farm owners and encourage them to actively participate and connect various actors (experts in the field of agriculture, researchers, consultants, farms, companies, educational institutions).
